The Critics Say:
"G&G Productions warm(s) the hearts of the audience"
G&G Productions was co-founded in 2000 by community leaders Gary Harvey and Gary Thornton, a dynamic and gifted team.
Gary and Gary first performed together in a play called "The Wizard of Was" which was written by Cassandra Lockwood and directed by Randy Leers. Following that, Randy put together a black drama group and wrote and directed "A Heritage Remembered" which Gary and Gary performed in. After several performances the group disbanded, but Gary and Gary continued to perform excerpts from the play at local schools and various area functions.
While a part of the Cornhill Youth Project Gary H. asked Gary T. to write a play about the plight of our youth, and the everyday issues they face. The play, called "Life In The Hood", earned invitations to perform from numerous groups. To facilitate the success, G&G Productions was formed. Under G&G Productions, Gary T. wrote "What about Us" and "Striving To Reach The Top".
SOUL HOLIDAY IS BORN: In October of 2000 Gary T. put pen to paper and wrote "Soul Holiday". The first performance of this musical was in December of that same year. The Cornhill Youth Group rocked Utica's Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute, and the feedback was overwhelming.
Over the years Soul Holiday has grown both in poignancy as well as in scope. Additions have been made to accommodate diversity - resulting in a very full and exciting performance.
Today's audience is warned to come prepared for a delightfully complex cast, singing moving and inspirational songs, and telling a story that we all yearn to hear.
